Swar Pathshala
Patang, in partnership with Manzil Mystics, proudly presents the Swar Pathshala Fellowship, a year-long journey for young vocalists and instrumentalists from Sambalpur and Bargarh, Odisha. This fellowship builds on Patang’s two-decade-long commitment to youth leadership, creativity, and community transformation.
Over the past 22 years, Patang has witnessed the raw musical talent and artistic energy among local youth. However, many of these young artists do not have access to structured mentorship, peer learning, or platforms that recognize and support their creative growth. The Swar Pathshala fellowship is designed to address this gap by combining music training, life skills, facilitation experience, and community engagement.
Over the course of 12 months, eight selected fellows (four teams, each with one vocalist and one instrumentalist) will receive intensive training in music theory, songwriting, performance, facilitation, leadership, and digital literacy among other important skills to grow as an artist. Fellows will also lead regular music sessions with children in child clubs, schools, and community spaces, using music as a medium for cultural connection, emotional expression, and collective joy.
The fellowship includes:
-
Mentorship from experienced artists and facilitators
-
Skill-building in music, facilitation, communication, and job readiness
-
A monthly stipend and logistical support
-
Opportunities to perform in public and community events
-
An exposure visit to Delhi that includes studio sessions and networking
Fellows are selected through a participatory process that includes workshops, interviews, and team-based evaluations. Selected fellows are expected to demonstrate full participation throughout the fellowship period, including regular training, facilitation work, and reflection activities.
More than just a music program, this fellowship is a platform for young people to rediscover their cultural heritage, grow as artists, and become changemakers in their communities. By the end of the fellowship, participants will have not only strengthened their musical abilities but also developed greater confidence, collaboration skills, and a strong sense of purpose!
